In an age of technology, I feel that MTS is just taking a huge step back by introducing 9 digit local numbers. There are so many other ways that they could have implemented this, such as giving rural areas a separate area code, or just all of Winnipeg. Such a pain, and a step backwards.

The other option would be to make the major centers 204 and change the non Winnipeg/Brandon to a different area code. However, I suspect that a change like that would cost a lot more than simply adding a second code. Ultimately it comes down to money. Would be nice though if it would auto dial the 204 for everyone.

What is the next area code going to be, does anyone know?

It is discussing , could the system find a way to auto the numbers (204) in our area, and be able to change when not a MB call?
